The Senate yesterday cleared the fiscal 2007 funding resolution for the president’s signature. The overwhelming 81-15 vote to clear the bill belied Republican concerns about how the measure was developed and passed.
Republicans continued to complain it was assembled with little GOP input and that they were blocked from offering amendments, but 33 Republicans still ended up voting for the measure.
The resolution would allow $463.5 billion to be spent in fiscal 2007 for the nine spending bills the GOP Congress failed to enact last year. Appropriations Chairman Byrd yesterday released new details on the bill.
Senate Majority Leader Reid noted GOP dissatisfaction and said some issues would be addressed in the fiscal 2007 supplemental, where amendments will be considered.
“I have made commitments to a number of people that we’re going to take care of these things on the supplemental, which should be here the last week in March,” Reid said. “I’ve told the distinguished Republican leader that [the supplemental] will be open to amendments.”
