Political Trivia for July 10

What was Jesse Ventura’s professional wrestling nickname?

a) The Governator

b) The Body

c) Vito Power

d) The Political Muscle

Answer: b) The powerfully built Ventura created a colorful persona as “The Body” during a professional wrestling career that ran from the mid 1970s to the mid 1980s, when he retired because of health concerns. He maintained a high profile as a wrestling commentator — even as he began a Minnesota political career in the early 1990s as mayor of the Twin Cities suburb of Brooklyn Park — which helped him score his unlikely victory as a third-party candidate for governor of his home state in 1998.

Ventura, who served one term but did not seek re-election in 2002, appears close to a decision to enter this year’s high-profile Senate race in Minnesota, as reported by CQ Politics Wednesday. If Ventura runs, he will face a rematch with Republican Sen. Norm Coleman, who won his current seat in 2002 after losing to Ventura as the 1998 GOP nominee for governor.
