Today in Washington
The House

takes up a bill intended to rein in energy futures speculation; also considers the conference report on a major product safety law overhaul and legislation to empower the Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco products and advertising.

The Senate

remains stalled, after failing to limit debate on motions to call up a media shield bill or a measure extending a variety of tax breaks for individuals and businesses.

The President

meets with his Cabinet; signs a sweeping housing rescue package.

In Washington,

the New America Foundation holds a discussion on health care, with former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D., and Leo Hindery, economic adviser to the Obama campaign. 4:15 p.m., 1630 Connecticut Ave. N.W.
