Today in Washington
The House

votes on a higher education law overhaul, which the Senate could clear later in the day; the fiscal 2009 Military Construction-VA appropriations bill, and a pay equity measure.

The Senate

resumes consideration of a motion to call up the defense authorization bill; may clear both the Higher Education Act reauthorization and a consumer product safety law overhaul.

The President

issues an executive order redefining goals and responsibilities of the national intelligence community; holds a photo op with recipients of the Scouts in Action commendation; addresses the 2008 annual meeting of the West Virginia Coal Association in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., before heading to Kennebunkport, Maine.

In Washington,

the Peace Corps holds its annual Capitol Hill staff and intern recruiting event. 3 p.m., Room HC-5, Capitol.
