A Typo? Maybe, But Not One Kingston Cares to Correct

Rep. Jack Kingston has been less than friendly to the Democratic Party over the years. He’s called Democrats everything from “a party of whiners” to an “economically ignorant” bunch that “could care less about families.”

But now the Georgia Republican has taken his disdain for the new majority party one step further — to the fiery depths of hell.

In a statement released over the recess, he equated the Democrats with evil spirits for advocating an increase in cigarette taxes to pay for an expanded children’s health care program.

“Demoncrats and Republicans Split Over Government Healthcare,” the statement read.

Kingston press secretary Krista Cole laughingly took responsibility for “the obvious typo,” insisting no eternal judgment had been made. She said she merely neglected to spell-check the release.

Democrats were a bit skeptical, given Kingston’s history of name-calling.

Said one Democratic aide: “I believe it was a typo. Then again, I also believe in the Easter Bunny, unicorns and that the Nationals will win the pennant this year.”

Typo? Probably. But apparently not one Kingston’s office cares to correct. A month after its initial posting, the “typo” statement not only is still on Kingston’s House Web site, it’s been moved to a prominent spot on the opening page.
